Stefan and Angela's visit.
Who else would we expect to be our first houseguests in Denver than Stefan and Angela? Our beloved friends from Regensburg have been visiting Colorado since mid-August, staying in Golden and Grand Junction, and now have been with us for the past week. It's an unbelievably busy time for Dave and me, but we've managed to take breaks and get out to see the city a bit with Stefan and Angela.
Monday was Labor Day, so we went to 'A Taste of Colorado' in Civic Center Park and enjoyed a free Big Bad Voodoo Daddy concert. They have a new album of Cab Calloway covers coming out in 2009 and played a lot of songs from it, and we danced and enjoyed the good weather together.

Wednesday night we met my brother at Armida's for karaoke, an experience Stefan and Angela have never tried. Rick and I got up on stage and belted out some of our favorites ("Every Rose Has Its Thorn" and "Friday I'm in Love" for Rick, "Son of a Preacher Man" and "Beautiful Stranger" for me). At first Stefan and Angela were a little skeptical of the dive-y atmosphere at the karaoke place, but came to appreciate it as the crowd grew and we really started having fun.

Last night Stefan and Angela went to a baseball game with my parents - they had been to Coors Field before, but from the sound of things sat in the nosebleed section and didn't really get the kind of baseball education one can get from attending a game with my dad. He inducted them into all the important rituals - pre-game beer, demolishing a bag of peanuts, booing at the umpires - and gave them a new appreciation for the sport.

They'll be flying back to Munich tomorrow, and we'll be sad to see them go. Fortunately, Dave will be back in Germany at the end of October to defend his MA thesis, so he'll get a little more time in Bavaria very soon.
