Maidult 2007

Over the last three years, Erin and I have made a tradition of making it to Regensburg for the annual Maidult festival. Something of smaller (and better) scaled Oktoberfest, Maidult has but just a few demands:

1. Break out your best Bavarian costume -- lederhosen for the guys and dirndl for the gals.
2. Ride whatever the craziest ride is that is there.
3. Be ready to drink beer in bulk (1 liter at a time).
4. After of few of those beers, dance on the tables.
5. Walk home when even the beer tents cant handle you anymore.

These rules don't really have to be followed in this order, but it definately helps.

Since I have known Stefan and Angela, I have managed to follow rules 2 through 4 fairly well. Erin's fist outing in 2005 proved that you also bend the rules 2 and 3 a little (by substituting the ferriswheel for the "death-drop" or "big shot" in the carnival rides and by throwing in a Radler here and there). The point is that we always have fun.

This year, however, Erin and I decided that we needed to close some of the gaps in following the rules. As we had beer drinking and table dancing covered, we decided that buying the Bavarian costumes was the only way we could improve our performance. So last Saturday, all four of us packed into the VW and headed to the local tracht outlet to get the hook-up.

Once there, we met the experts. I mean, I've seen a lot of people that know their product...but these ladies blow them all away. "Lift your shirt and turn around! Yes, yes, definitely a 48," and viola, with a pat on the butt I've got perfect fitting lederhosen. Erin had a similar experience with randem hands poking in and handing her dresses and bras that were her exact fit.

Dressed to the nine's (Bavarian style, of course) we all headed out to take our position towards the front of the tent, bierkrüge in hand. We wish you all could come and experience this with us, so here's a little video here's a video and typical song played in the bierzelt to whet your appetite.

Oans, zwoa, g'suffa...Prost!

An Stefan und Angela...wir bedanken uns (noch mal) für eure Freundschaft und die Freude sie mitbringt. Wir sehen uns bald und werden die Krüge wieder anstoßen!

Refrain to the Hofbräuhaus Lied:
In München steht ein Hofbräuhaus:
Eins, zwei, g'suffa . . .
Da läuft so manches Fäßchen aus:
Eins, zwei, g'suffa . . .
Da hat so manche braver Mann:
Eins, zwei, g'suffa . . .
Gezeigt was er so vertragen kann
Schon früh am Morgen fing er an
Und spät am Abend kam er heraus
So schön ist's im Hofbräuhaus.
