Zu kalt (too cold).

In the interest of symmetry, it's only fair that I have an entry in response to "zu heiss" titled "zu kalt." The weather did a 180 about 10 days ago and we've had day after day of rain, cold, and wind. At the moment the sun is poking through, and Dave and I hope we'll be able to play a little tennis today after school. You can see in the image that pretty much all of Germany is under a big cloud these days. Over the weekend in Regensburg it rained almost every day, and we went around wearing multiple sweaters and glad we had left our warm jackets there with Stefan and Angela. We're told this weather is more like what we can look forward to in April, rather than being what one would expect on August.

Our language classes end on Friday next week, and everyone is ramping up for the beginning of the Humboldt orientation and our move to Berlin. We'll spend a week or so in Bonn, touring cultural and political agencies, visiting museums, and going to concerts in the evenings. It all sounds great, but I'm a little apprehensive because it will all be in German, and I'm not sure how well my skills will hold up. Last week we toured a church outside of Bonn with an Emeritus Professor of art history from Cologne. His first sentence was deceptively slow and simple, and all the people in my class exchanged relieved looks, expecting that we would be able to understand him. Soon, however, he started in with long sentences and complex vocabulary. Dave and the other advanced students enjoyed the afternoon, but the rest of us hope that other cultural tours will be given in more basic German.
